Why Bother?

Keeping consistent with anything is a struggle for most of us. All it seems to take is a cold morning to justify taking ‘a day off’.

Have you ever wondered why you can’t find the motivation or the discipline for that big change you were so excited about at the beginning of January?  Do you often hear yourself or a family member mutter ‘what is the point’ or ‘WHY should I bother’?

We’re all caught up in our busy lives to the extent that sometimes, we just can’t see the woods for the trees.

You won’t be surprised to learn that our willpower reserves have been shown to be limited in studies (which certainly reflects my experience) so perhaps willpower is not the best thing to rely on.

But I have a big life plan Chris!

While a plan seems to be recommended, a plan without the motivation to physically and mentally get out of bed in the morning ain’t going to see much action either…. and what happens when life gets in the way? We all know that the plan goes out the window.

It’s hard enough trying to introduce positive habits such as healthy eating, exercise or spending more time with the weans. But what about when life throws you surprise such as a serious illness, an accident, divorce, house move or lottery win:)? All fairly foreseeable stuff guys…

Born for this…

The solution – If you haven’t done so already; everyone should spend time identifying their WHY!

When you identify your WHY, you take the focus away from the daily eating and fitness goals and start to think about the bigger picture. When you do, you might find that positive change just happens without much planning. Life will take on new purpose as you’ll have found the key to you your own success. Once you spot it, you’ll likely be right annoyed that it’s been staring you in the face all this time. I know I was.

Almost Unstoppable

As Mike Tyson famously said, “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face”.

As we all know, life is tough enough without the curveballs, but with a clearly identified WHY in your arsenal, you’ll be bouncing back in quick time for the long game.

Spend half an hour identifying what drives or inspires you. What’s your purpose cause or belief; what will make you a hero on your terms?

Why did you REALLY get out of bed this morning and should anyone care? What does the result you’re after, actually look like; and how clear can you get on that grand vision. Get specific on your ‘why’ and you’ll be unstoppable, sort of.

As long as we’re still breathing, it’s never too late to start the journey.

Family and friends are counting on you.

Who or what are you fighting for?

Sorry – I went into cheerleading mode at the end there….. it might sound a wee bit contrived, but it’s important stuff folks.
